...to our 2006 edition of FRUIT HILL FARM's website - introducing you to a wide range of items for the environment friendly house, farm and garden.
You will find a useful mixture of practical equipment for house and kitchen - in particular items which can help to live a sustainable, healthy life. For our farm customers we do offer organic fertiliser, grass- and grain seeds - which are in more detail described in our separate farm supply list (let us know if you want a copy!). But the largest section in this catalogue, as our long standing customers know, deals with essential items for the garden: tools, organic seeds and fertilisers, biological pest control and crop protection - almost everything which is needed to grow healthy organic food for a quality lifestyle.
A few things are common to most items: they are designed to make gardening a pleasant experience and to be useful and efficient (which we test regularly, ongoing in our own organic horticultural enterprise). They are made from quality materials, and are manufactured with a high level of craftsmanship (often based on a long tradition of handcrafting tools). We think we need to honour such skills which evolved and matured in our European cultures. We too think it is important to support these traditional industries which face the stiff competition of (often copied) items, only cheap while massproduced by underpaid labour in environmentally questionable, farflung production facilities.
It surely must be a value in itself to make sure that we in Europe continue to have work and can earn a living under decent conditions. And that our children too will have a chance to provide for themselves and their future families.
This is not about denying other countries their development. But it must not be at the expense of loosing a large number of jobs, loosing income and a future.
Increasingly price seems to be the biggest single decision factor for a purchase. We think it is time to reflect - and to consider other important factors like quality and workmanship as well as the origin of the product. That is why we decided to label all European made products in this brochure. A sign of respect for those who made these quality items - but as well a reminder that it is in our hands to keep work and workplaces in Europe - save for the future.
