Predators

Biological control of pests in protected commercial and private horticulture has become one of the standard methods of pest control in recent years. The main reasons for this are:

1. no yield reduction due to phytotoxic effects
   
2. more pests being resistant to insecticides
   
3. predators are safe for grower and consumer
   
4. biological control is often cheaper.

Most pests can be controlled by predators provided that the pest has been identified in time and the environmental conditions, e.g. temperature, are right. Predators are live products and can therefore not be stocked. They have to be specially ordered, 'harvested' and delivered for immediate introduction.

To order above predators please

1. estimate severity of pest problem
   
2. estimate quantity of predators you need for the size of your tunnel
   
3. on receipt of predators introduce them immediately into the infested area

Tip: Where there is a history of pests predators should be introduced as soon as the temperature in the tunnel is over 17°C even if the pest is not visible.
