Liley White Sea Kale

Crambe maritima

  • This is a perennial crop so requires a permanent site.
  • Sea Kale has distinctive grey/blue green fleshy leaves and gives a beautiful display of pure white flowers in late spring.
  • Sea kale is easy to grow in slightly alkaline soil and full sunlight/partial shade.  Sow in pots or directly in the garden in March or April.
  • The early shoots are eaten raw or cooked.
  • They are best when blanched so put a thick layer of straw or a bucket over them in autumn/winter.
  • Don't start cropping until the second year.
  • The seeds come in a little round seed case.  They are best removed so water can reach the seed more easily.
  • 20 - 30 seeds per pack
  • Certified Organic  IE-ORG-02
  • Seed supplied by Irish Seed Savers

Sea kale is a true perennial and will live in your garden for many years if you treat it gently. If you cut every last shoot it will often last only three years. Older sea kale plants are very productive  -   take care of them and they will take care of you.
