Kohlrabi 'Superschmelz'

Kohlrabi is grown for its bulbous stem which can be eaten cooked or raw;  it is enjoyed for its crisp, delicate flavour and its crunchy texture. ‘Superschmelz’ is a light green variety which can grow 30-60cm high and has the benefit of remaining tender to a giant size. It grows slowly and is bolt resistant. Each packet contains approximately 80 organic seeds. More details below.

Organic Kohlrabi 'Superschmelz' Seeds

Sowing schedule: Sow in modules from mid-May to June and plant outside from June to July for harvesting in autumn to early winter. Alternatively direct sow outdoors in June.

Sowing depth: 1cm

Optimal germination temperature: 18-20 °C

Planting distance: 25 x 25 cm under cover; 30 x 30 cm in open ground. Increase distances where plants will be allowed to grow very large.

Crop rotation: Kohlrabi is a brassica and should be grouped in planting rotation plans with other members of the brassicaceae family such as cabbage, kale, broccoli, mustard leaf, rocket, turnip and radish.

Growing conditions: Kohlrabi prefers full sun with some shelter on moist fertile well-draining soils. If soils are very acidic, add lime.

Number of seeds: Each packet contains approximately 80 organic seeds, enough for 60 plants.
