Organic Calendula officinalis Seeds

The name 'calendula' comes from the Latin word calendae, meaning ‘little calendar’, because the flower can bloom in every month of the year, especially in warmer climates. Calendula attracts beneficial insects such as bees and hoverflies. It can be used as a ‘trap’ crop, drawing aphids and whiteflies away from other crops.

Characteristics:

  • Annual
  • Flowers: orange/yellow
  • Height: 30 - 60cm

Growing schedule: Sow direct outside from March to July for flowering from June to October. Alternatively seeds can be sown in August to September and over-wintered under cover for an earlier flowering the following year.

Sowing depth: 1cm

Planting distance: 25 x 25cm.

Growing conditions: Calendula prefers full sun but can also tolerate partial shade. It can tolerate most soil conditions as long as not too wet or too rich. It is a hardy plant but will not survive a hard frost.

Ongoing care: Once in bloom, dead-head continuously to prolong flowering. Will self-seed readily when seed heads are allowed to mature.

Number of seeds: Each packet contains approximately 150 organic seeds, enough for 100 plants.
