Perennial ryegrass is the major forage grass used in Ireland. This is because of its high yield (with sufficient fertility) and its palatability to livestock. It has been a main focus of grass breeding for many decade so many varieties exist.

Special Features:

• A high yielding variety under both cutting and grazing.
• It has very good first cut yield.
• A late variety.
• Good resistance to leaf spot and rust.
• Long term persistent species
• Winter hardy.

Management:

• Requires good fertility and moisture to perform well.
• Vigorous grass which is suitable for overseeding.
• Management will depend largely on the type of sward it is included with - perennial ryegrass makes quality grazing as well as silage.
