Organic Rapini Seed for Sprouting & Microgreens
With a slightly milder taste than mustard or cress, salad rapini, aka broccoli raab, is much faster growing and can be sown like cress or used as sprouting seeds.
Rapini is often used instead of mustard in the punnets of cress and mustard.
Microgreen Instructions:
Growing Time: 10 - 15 Days
Ideal Temperature: 20°C
Seeding Rate: 25 - 35g per microgreen tray or 6 - 9g per small seed tray
Pre Soak: No
How To Grow:
- Fill a tray with compost. Firm into tray and moisten the soil.
- It is advisable to use a micro biologically tested compost such as Klasmann Peat Free Seed Compost to ensure there is no pathogens present.
- Sprinkle the seeds evenly over compost and press down gently and spray surface with water.
- Sprinkle the Broccoli seeds over compost and press down gently.
- Cover seeds with another tray to keep in darkness for 2-3 days or until germination occurs.
- Place somewhere with a good light source.
- Keep the compost moist – be careful not to over water though!
- Should be ready in about 10-15 days.
Harvesting: When you are happy with your crop then cut your greens close to the bottom and gently rinse off any compost. If you feel they are getting too big they can all be harvested together and stored in a container in the fridge to keep fresh.
Sprouting Instructions:
- Can be sown like Salad Cress or Mustard directly to damp surface in container.
- For sprouting seeds rinse and empty the seeds into your sprouter if you have one or any tray / container.
- Set anywhere – in low light and at room temperature (70° is optimal).
- Rinse and drain every 12 hours for 2-5 days depending on required sprout size.
- When you rinse try not to disturb the seeds/sprouts. They need to stay where they are – to form a mass that is unmovable.
- When ready, transfer your sprout crop to a plastic bag or the sealed container of your choice and refrigerator.
- The sprouts are best fresh, but will store for up to 5 days if dry in a fridge.
