Common Bent 'Highland' (Agrostis castellana)

Highland Bent is a densely tufted perennial grass, known for its ability to adapt to most soils conditions, including nutrition deficient sites. It survives prolonged droughts, and invades areas of poor acid soils.

  • Good for damp soils, meadows, pastures and rough grounds
  • Its stalks grow about 80 cm long
  • Resistant to grazing and tolerant of wear
  • Wind pollinated, seed is set from August to October
  • It is relatively tolerant to many fungal diseases
  • Seeds germinate both in the autumn and in the spring
