Sturon Organic Onion Sets (10-22mm)

Sturon is an outstanding maincrop variety that produces high quality, medium-sized, juicy-fleshed bulbs.

The nice, round, globe shaped onions are early maturing and have smooth brown skin with yellow flesh. Sturon offers good resistance to bolting and it has been the main variety for onion set production for many years. Also it is a very flexible dual purpose onion, as it can be planted close for green bunching onions, or spaced farther apart to form quite large storage onions. Sturon has very good keeping qualities; being thin-necked they keep extremely well. They will store well into the winter if kept under good conditions.

How many sets do I get?

  • 250g = approx. 60- 80 sets
  • 1kg = approx. 250 to 300 sets

Planting: March / April

Harvesting: August

Storage: Strong skin, good storage ability

Plant onion sets in rows in any firm, well drained soil in full sun. Prepare the planting area several weeks in advance by incorporating some well rotted garden compost to improve drainage and soil fertility. Avoid planting onions on freshly manured soil.

Plant the bulbs so that the tip of bulb is just protruding through the soil surface. Leave a space of 10cm between each bulb, and 30cm  between each row.

On particularly wet ground, try growing onion sets in raised beds.
