Valerian

Valerian is a tall perennial with pretty pink-white flowers from the second year. It is used traditionally as a medicinal plant and its flowers are used in Biodynamic preparations. It provides plentiful nectar for pollinators – and can also be a favourite amongst felines, as an alternative to catnip! Each packet contains 0.5g of organic seed. More details below.

Organic Valerian (Valeriana officinalis) Seeds

Characteristics:

  • Perennial
  • Flowers: pinkish-white
  • Height: up to 150cm

Growing schedule: Sow under cover from March or direct outdoors from late April to June. From the second year, flowers will bloom between June and September.

Sowing depth: Valerian seeds need light for germination so cover with only a thin sprinkling of soil.

Planting distance: 40 x 30cm

Growing conditions: Valerian prefers full sun in moderately fertile, moist soil. It is a hardy perennial plant – it will die back in winter and then re-emerge in spring.

Number of seeds: Each packet contains 0.5g of organic seed.
