Rosemary

€2.95

Rosemary is a fragrant evergreen herb grown for culinary, medicinal and ornamental purposes. In summer, its purple flowers are much loved by bees, butterflies and other pollinators. While rosemary plants are often grown from cuttings, those grown from seed are said to be more flavoursome and aromatic. Each pack contains approximately 40 organic seeds. More details below.

Organic Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) Seeds

Characteristics:

  • Perennial: rosemary plants take 5-10 years to reach full size and can live up to 20 years or more.
  • In favourable conditions they can reach 1.5-2.5m in height and 1.5-2.5m in width.

Growing schedule: Sow indoors from March to May in a heated propagator or a lidded seed tray on a warm windowsill. Plant out once all risk of frost has passed and temperatures have warmed up.

Sowing depth: Seeds need light to germinate so press them into damp soil/compost but do not cover completely.

Germination: As rosemary tends to have a low germination rate, it is recommended to sow extra! Sow a pinch at a time and later thin out all but the strongest plant. Germination can take several weeks.

Growing conditions: Rosemary prefers a sunny sheltered spot with well-draining soil.

Ongoing care: Prune once a year in late winter to early spring. Cut back no more than one third of the plant. Only cut the soft new growth; do not cut back to the woody base stems.

Number of seeds: Each packet contains approximately 40 organic seed.
