St. John's Wort

St. John's Wort is an important perennial medicinal plant and will grow to approx. 80 cm in height. Yellow flowers appear from 2nd year onwards which are loved by bees and other pollinators. Each packet contains 0.25g of organic seed. More details below.

Organic St. John's Wort (Hypericum perforatum) Seeds

Characteristics:

Growing schedule: Sow indoors from late March or direct outdoors from late April to July. Growth in the first year tends to be very slow.

Sowing depth: 0.5cm

Germination: The ideal germination temperature is 15-20°C. This may be achieved on a propagator or a warm windowsill.

Planting distance: 40 x 50cm

Growing conditions: St. John's Wort enjoys full sun and well-draining soil. It dislikes having wet feet and will suffer in heavy or waterlogged soils.

Ongoing care: This native species needs little care

Use: St. John's Wort is most commonly used in tincture form for mild/moderate depression and mood disorders.  Please do not use without the advice of your herbalist or doctor, as it may interact with other medications.
