Loose Leaf Lettuce 'Lollo Rossa'

€3.45

'Lollo Rossa' is a loose-leaf lettuce variety with medium-sized heads of red frilled leaves.  This variety makes an excellent addition to salad bags for its lovely taste and strong red colour. 'Lollo Rossa' heads are very pretty and can be grown in the garden as a border plant. Each pack contains 1.25g of organic seed. More details below.

Organic 'Lollo Rossa' Lettuce Seeds

Growing schedule: Sow under cover from mid-February for growing on indoors; or from April to July for outdoor cultivation. For a late crop, sow in late summer and grow on indoors. Sow successively for continuous cropping.

Sowing depth: Cover with only a thin layer of soil as lettuce seeds need light to germinate.

Germination: Ideal germination temperature is 10-15 °C, 7 -10 days.

Planting distance: Space plants 20cm apart with 25 cm between rows.

Growing conditions: Lettuce doesn’t do well in high temperatures – it enjoys full sun, but may benefit from partial shade in the hotter months of the year. It grows best in moist, well-draining soil. Can turn bitter if grown in very cold conditions.

Harvest: Cut at 10cm high for baby leaf or allow to grow on for full head. For ‘cut-and-come-again’ salad leaves, pick the outer leaves and the plant will continue to grow from the centre.

Number of seeds: Each pack contains 1.25g of organic seed.
