Scallions / Bunching Onions 'Ischikrona'

Ischikrona is an excellent variety of fast growing bunching onion derived from Ishikura. It produces long white stems and dark green leaves with excellent mild taste. This variety is cold hardy, very adaptable to various climates and resistant to pink root and botrytis leaf blight. 900 organic seeds. More details below.

 

Organic Onion 'Ischikrona' seeds

Growing schedule: Sow in modules from February to early April and plant out in late spring. Direct sow from Mid march to July

Sowing depth: 1-2cm

Planting distance: Leave 25-30 cm between rows; thin to 5-10 cm between plants. 

Germination: Onions can germinate from around 4°C but the optimum germination temperature is around 20°C. Use a propagator or a warm windowsill to germinate seeds. Once germinated, they can benefit from consistent gentle heat but can also grow on in an unheated polytunnel or glasshouse.

Growing conditions: Onions like full sun and fertile, well-draining soil. If soil is very acidic, add lime.

Ongoing care: Keep beds well weeded as onions will struggle under a heavy weed load.

Harvest & storage: Vigourous and quick to mature - harvest from July to Oct.  Seeds sown in late summer can be harvested overwinter.
