Organic 'Matina' Tomato Seeds

Sowing schedule: Sow seeds inside in mid Feb to early April using a propagator, heating mat or lidded seed tray on a sunny windowsill. Plant under cover in late April or May.

Sowing depth: 3-6mm

Germination: Tomato seeds germinate best at a temperature of 20-24°C. A heated propagator is the ideal place to start off tomatoes early in the year.

Planting distance: 40 - 60cm between plants with 75cm between rows

Growing conditions: Protection needed as tomatoes grow best at temperatures of 21-24 C. Tomatoes need full sun and rich, moist, well-draining soil.

Harvest: From mid-July through to mid October

Ongoing care:

  • ‘Matina’ tomatoes grow tall and need to be supported with either canes or string.
  • Pick off side-shoots as they emerge and remove any yellowing branches below the lowest truss of fruits.
  • Once the first fruit has set, feed plants every week or two with a liquid feed high in potassium such as Vinasse Tomato and Plant Food.

Number of seeds: Each pack contains approximately 22 organic seeds, enough for 15 plants.
