Wheat is a great supplement to chicken feed (pellets) and free range forage.
If your chickens are not used to wholegrains, introduce a small amount for the first two weeks to allow their gizzards to adjust. Make sure grit is always available to them.
It is best to mix wheat with other feed; proportionately no more than 50%. Chickens do not manufacture amino acids in their gut, so they need to get them from their feed. Wheat is missing some of the essential amino acids, so it cannot be used as the only food source. Blend with concentrate feed to be sure they have all they need.
