Meadow Foxtail (Alopecurus Pratensis)

Meadow Foxtail is a native, moderately tall grass. It is one of the earliest grasses to grow and flowers in spring. This species is known for it's unique seed head, resembling a fox's bushy tail.

  • Early to mature.
  • Meadow foxtail grows in a wide range of grasslands.
  • Early to flower and good for making hay.
  • Commonly growing in low lying areas.
  • Flowering time: April, May, June.
  • Height: up to 110cm.
  • It has smooth wide flat leaves.

Management:

  • It prefers moist, fertile soil.
  • Sow any time of the year on bare soil.
  • Grazing or cutting in the spring will delay heading and encourage more summer growth.
  • Can be included with other traditional and non aggressive species for conservation mixes.
