Pea for Combining, Forage or Greenmanure
Forage peas forms a dense mass of green vegetation. The rapid growth of peas can be very effective at suppressing weeds. With a N content of 3-4%, peas produce 40-70kg kg/N/A and there are even reports of higher Nitrogen fixing levels. The residue breaks down rapidly, releasing the N quickly. Once established pea can withstand heavy frosts but can easily be killed by mechanical means at all growth stages.
