The fresh leaves of coriander (Coriandrum sativum) have a distinctive citrusy taste and are an ingredient in many Indian and Mexican foods. Coriander is also called Cilantro or Chinese Parsley. Leaves and seeds can be used for flavouring salads, curries, pickles and chutney. Each packet contains 2g of organic seed. More details below.

Organic Coriander (Coriandrum sativum) Seeds

Characteristics:

  • Biennial, usually grown as an annual
  • Height: 30-50cm

Growing schedule: Direct sow from April to mid-July after soil warms up. Coriander does not transplant well but can be grown throughout the season under glass or in a polytunnel.  It can be grown on a sunny kitchen window sill.

Sowing depth: 1cm

Germination: Coriander tends to have a slow germination rate, around 7 - 20 days depending on temperature. Seeds will germinate between 15-32°C but higher temperatures (ideally 21-27°C) will improve and speed up germination.

Planting distance: 30 x 10 cm

Growing conditions: Coriander grows best with full sun to partial shade in moist, rich, deep, well-drained soil. It has a tendency to bolt if it dries out so keep it well watered.

Harvest: Leaves and stems can be harvested over time and the plant will continue to grow back vigorously.

Number of seeds: Each packet contains 2g of organic seed, enough to cover 5m².
