Broccoli Purple Sprouting
Purple-sprouting broccoli is a hardy plant that grows slowly through the winter, providing a flurry of delicious tender broccoli shoots in the spring. It is highly nutritious and very easy to grow. Each packet contains 0.5g of organic seed. More details below.
Organic Broccoli 'Purple Sprouting' Seeds
Growing schedule: Sow in modules or direct outside from May to July for harvesting the following spring.
Sowing depth: 1cm
Planting distance: 65 x 65cm
Growing conditions: Purple sprouting broccoli prefers full sun and deep, fertile, moist, well-draining soil. If soil is very acidic, add lime.
Crop rotation: Broccoli is a brassica and should be grouped in planting rotation plans with other members of the Brassicaceae family such as cabbage, kale, mustard, kohlrabi, rocket, turnip and radish.
Ongoing care: Plants may require staking as they get larger.
Harvest: Individual shoots can be harvested as they mature - ideally before flowers open. Start with the central shoot to encourage growth of sideshoots.
Number of seeds: Each packet contains 0.5g of organic seed, approximately 120 seeds.
