Gherkin 'Hokus'

Hokus is a green gherkin variety, grown mainly for pickling.  This variety can be grown outdoors in a sheltered spot, on well-fertilised soil or indoors in a polytunnel or greenhouse.  This gherkin is very frost sensitive so plant out after any chance of frost (end of May onwards). Each extra-large packet contains 2g - approx 80 organic seeds, sufficient for approx 20m². More details below.

Organic 'Hokus' Gherkin Seeds

Growing schedule: Sow in modules from late March to early May and plant in final spot in May/June. Long after any chance of frost if growing outdoors

Sowing depth: 2cm

Germination: Gherkins germinate between 12-30°C, with 23-26 °C the optimal temperature range.

Planting distance: 50 x 100 cm

Growing conditions: Gherkins grow best in warm conditions and prefer fertile, moist, well-draining soil with plenty of organic matter. To avoid waterlogged conditions around the roots, cucumbers can be planted into small mounds or raised ridges. plants can be grown vertically up trellises or along the ground in field conditions

Harvest & storage: Vigourous and quick to mature - harvest from Jun to Sept indoors and July to Oct outdoors.
