Pepper Chilli 'De Cayenne'
De Cayenne is a high yielding chilli pepper that produces 10-12cm long, slim, green peppers that ripen to red. An excellent variety that produces vigourous plants with large numbers of medium to hot spicy chillis. Riper fruits tend to be spicier. Each pack contains 25 organic seeds. More details below.
Organic Pepper 'De Cayenne' seeds
Growing schedule: Sow seeds inside from February to March using a propagator, heating mat or lidded seed tray on a sunny windowsill. Pot on into larger pots as needed until temperatures are warm enough to transfer into a polytunnel or glasshouse in May.
Sowing depth: 1cm
Germination: Pepper seeds germinate best in warm soil (21 - 30°C) and so a heated propagator is the ideal place to start them off early in the year. In colder conditions, germination may be slower or less successful.
Planting distance: 45cm between plants; 50cm between rows
Growing conditions: Peppers need full sun, shelter and warmth. They are cold-sensitive and require high temperatures to grow well; so they aren't well suited to outdoor cultivation in Ireland. Peppers grow best in fertile, well-draining, slightly acidic soil containing plenty of organic matter. A well-balanced fertiliser such as Topmix Complete 4-3-7 or Biodigester Organic Plant Food 4-3-7 is ideal to prepare the ground.
Ongoing care: Once the first fruit has set, feed plants every week or two with a liquid feed high in potassium such as Vinasse Tomato and Plant Food.
Number of seeds: Each packet contains approximately 25 organic seeds.
