Organic Westerwolds Ryegrass

Annual, or Westerwolds, Ryegrass is an annual grass which is well-known for its quick establishment and early vigour. It can be sown from spring until October. When sown early in Spring or late in the Autumn it can give, under favourable weather conditions, 5 to 6 cuts. However, in case of early sowing it has the tendency to set seed.

• Tetraploid variety. The new tetraploid varieties have coarse leaves with a dark green colour. They form a very palatable crop and are more winter hardy then older varieties.
• Can be usefull for the production of hay for horses as it is the only grass to produce a stem and seed head from a spring sowing.
• It quickly makes a large root mass and effectively seeks out and mops up nitrate from the soil.
• Makes an excellent green manure. Can be used on its own but is even better with a nitrogen fixing companion such as Vetch, Egyptian Clover, Crimson Clover or Persian Clover.
