Chamomile
Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla) is an annual herb traditionally used for it's soothing and antimicrobial properties. Its dainty, edible flowers can be added to salads and make a calming tea - as well as providing nectar for pollinators in the garden. Chamomile is one of the essential herbs used for biodynamic preparations. Each packet contains 0.25g of organic seed. More details below.
Organic Chamomile seeds (Matricaria chamomilla)
Characteristics:
- Annual
- White and yellow flowers
- Height: 10 - 50cm
Growing schedule: Sow in modules from March to mid-May and transplant when plants are large enough to handle (about 4-6 weeks). Chamomile can be direct sown but the germination rate will be lower and very dependent on temperature. Plants can be grown in the polytunnel sown in autumn for an early crop the following spring.
Sowing depth: Cover with only a very fine layer of soil or vermiculite as chamomile seeds require light to germinate.
Germination: Chamomile will usually germinate within 1- 2 weeks, depending on the temperature.
Planting distance: 20 x 20 cm
Growing conditions: Chamomile grows best with full sun in well-drained soil. It does not like waterlogged soil. Harden off seedlings carefully before planting them out and protect plants from slugs.
Number of seeds: Each packet contains 0.25g, enough for approximately 2000 plants.
