Organic Purple-top Vervain (Verbena bonariensis) Seeds
Characteristics:
- Perennial
- Flowers: purple
- Height: up to 120cm
Growing schedule: Sow under cover from March or direct outside in May.
Sowing depth: 0.5cm
Germination: Verbena bonariensis seeds are usually slow to germinate. They require darkness and will be most successful at temperatures between 24-27°C. Exposure to a period of cold nights and warm days can help to stimulate the germination process. This can be achieved by sowing in trays early in the spring while the nights are still cool and applying bottom heat during the day. Alternatively, mix seeds with moist compost in a zip-lock bag and refrigerate for 30 days before sowing as normal.
Planting distance: 30 x 40cm
Growing conditions: Vervain prefers full sun and moist, well-draining soil. It can tolerate poor soil but will thrive in rich soil with plenty of organic matter. It has fairly good drought tolerance.
Number of seeds: Each packet contains 0.1g of organic seed.
