Melon 'Petit Gris de Rennes'
This French heirloom variety produces small but sweet canteloupe melons with dark green skin and bright orange flesh. Fruits ripen early and ripen fully even when conditions are not especially warm. Each packet contains approximately 25 seeds. More details below.
Organic Melon ‘Petit Gris de Rennes’ Seeds
Growing schedule: Sow in pots on a heated propagator or a warm windowsill from April to May. Plant out in a polytunnel or glasshouse once temperatures have warmed up and all risk of frost has passed.
Sowing depth: 1-2cm
Germination: Optimal germination temperature is 23-26 °C.
Planting distance: 50-100cm between plants; 100cm between rows
Growing conditions: Melons require warmth, full sun and fertile, moist, well-draining soil. They will not tolerate frost.
Crop rotation: Melon is a cucurbit and should be grouped in planting rotation plans with other members of the Cucurbitaceae family such as cucumber, pumpkin and courgette.
Harvest: ‘Petit Gris de Rennes’ melons are ready to harvest once their sheen has dulled slightly or when their stems have begun to split and the fruits come easily off the vine.
