Staghorn Plantain
Staghorn plantain is a unique salad plant with a slightly spicy, nutty and sometimes salty flavour. It grows in rosettes with long branching leaves reminiscent of a stag's antlers. It is a hardy perennial plant which grows slowly to start but becomes very vigorous as it develops. It can be cut repeatedly, provides high yields and is an ideal addition to baby leaf salad. Each packet contains approximately 1200 seeds. More details below.

Growing schedule: Sow in pots or trays from February to mid-August for planting outdoors between March and September. For over-wintering under cover, sow in September and plant indoors in October. Staghorn plantain does best when transplanted but it is possible to sow direct between March and July if necessary.
Planting distance: 30 x 10cm
Germination: Ideal germination temperature is around 15°C.
Growing conditions: Staghorn plantain likes an open, sunny position. It can survive in a variety of soil conditions but prefers well-draining soil. It would commonly grow wild in sandy or gravelly areas. As a coastal plant, it has good tolerance for salt and exposure - and it is also frost hardy.
Number of seeds: Each packet contains approximately 1200 seeds, enough to cover 15m².
