'Miner' Tillage Radish (Raphanus sativus) Seed

Tillage radishes have strong and deep growing roots which break up compacted soils and tillage pans. Better drainage and aeration of the soil is achieved afterwards.

A fast growing annual, it can be sown from May but may bolt and go to seed more quickly if there is hot weather. More often it is sown in August when the soil is still warm and bolting is not a problem. Avoid planting in late Autumn as there will be little taproot produced.

  • Not frost hardy. Shallow cultivation in early spring can speed up the decomposition of the roots
  • 'Miner' has rapid development
  • Holds residual nitrogen in the soil which is released over time as the roots break down
  • Can be mixed with annual clovers for more diverse green manure
