Organic Red Amaranth (Amaranthus tricolor) Seed

Amaranth is a relatively new microgreen but is a widely dispersed food plant around the world grown for its edible seeds and leaves. There are dozens of species ranging in colours through purple, red, green and gold. It is closely related to quinoa and fat-hen - an annual weed commonly found in our cultivated gardens. This variety called 'Red Line' has a particularly striking ruby red colour which, as well as being nutritious, adds colour interest to dishes.

How to grow amaranth microgreens:

  • refridgerate seeds 3/4 days before sowing
  • Sprinkle the seeds evenly over a microgreen tray of compost  press down gently and spray surface with water.
  • It is advisable to use a micro biologically tested compost such as Klasmann Peat Free Seed Compost to ensure there is no pathogens present.
  • keep the seeds covered for the germination time of 3-5 days.
  • Place somewhere with a good light source
  • water lightly for another 6-8 days, be careful not to over water.
  • Can be grown for longer to let true leaves develop.
