Events of Interest (June/July)
Farm Walks/Workshops at Byrne Biodiversity - Byrne Biodiversity is a consultancy and advisory service focused on managing landscapes to benefit nature, wildlife species, and pollinators. The organisation operates a research and innovation farm where specific ecological management practices are implemented. These include the planting and maintenance of native trees and hedgerows, cultivating crops for pollinators and wild birds, and applying water quality mitigation strategies. Additionally, the farm produces organic hay meadows with zero chemical use and minimal fertiliser application, demonstrating significant environmental benefits. The work conducted on the farm is recorded annually and consistently meets high standards, as noted by scientists and researchers. Byrne Biodiversity offers small, detailed farm walks on Saturday mornings during Summer and Winter, limited to ten participants to ensure a comprehensive understanding of their practices. Beginner’s Course to Growing Vegetables with Klaus Laitenberger
This workshop is for everyone who would like to grow their own food. The workshop will be packed with practical demonstrations on; how to prepare the soil, how to become a composting expert, seed sowing and other propagation methods, growing fruit and herbs. The classroom sessions will include; Crop planning, Crop rotation, Crop selection and what crops suit small gardens, Organic pest and disease control, Questions and Answers Session. Coffee & scones on arrival plus a 3 course lunch by Thien.

Dreaming of growing your own food but not sure where to start? This one-day course with Mick Kelly, founder of GIY, will teach you everything you need to know about growing vegetables at home. This course is aimed at complete beginners looking to grow their own food for the first time or indeed anyone who has tried growing before but wants to improve their results. And whether you have a balcony, small garden, or larger space, this course will give you the skills and confidence to get growing right away.

The Art of Mulching & Water
The Concept: "Use Small and Slow Solutions." The Workshop: Water conservation strategies & taking softwood cuttings. We will look at different types of mulch (seaweed & wool) to suppress weeds and feed the soil slowly during the driest months.

Natural Farming Intensive Training
Taught by Ireland’s Natural Farming pioneer Tom Stack, alongside a diverse team of teachers and soilsmiths, this will be a 5-day intensive training programme in person in south Limerick. The course will be based on the pioneering techniques of Korean Natural Farming (KNF), developed by Master Choand advanced by Chris Trump. The trainers will share their knowledge about the Korean Natural Farming technology, technique, and philosophies across 5 days, including tips to increase your profits and improve your sustainability.

Organic Dairy Farm Walk – Clare
The Teagasc Organic team has organised an Organic Dairy Farm Walk, taking place on Tuesday, 7 July at 12pm in Co. Clare. The walk is primarily aimed at any farmer who wishes to find out more about organic dairy farming and the potential it may offer them for their farm. Join us on a commercial organic dairy farm and hear directly from a farmer who has successfully made the transition to organic milk production. Organic dairying can enable farmers to reduce stock numbers and input costs while maintaining, and in some cases increasing, farm profitability.

Grow sustainably your own food
We offer kitchen garden courses where you will learn how to grow food using our simple, No-dig gardening techniques. This method not only improves soil health but also saves time and reduces strain, making it a back-friendly gardening solution. Our approach encourages minimal weeding through the use of mulching techniques and old techniques like coppicing and pollarding.

Preventative Farm Homeopathy for Livestock Farmers
Taking place in Shankill Castle, Co Kilkenny, this programme is two days’ teaching with the course tutors Chris Auckland and Jackie Pearce-Dickens, where the key principles of their proven system of prevention and early intervention will be explored through practical examples and exercises, relating to your own farm and livestock.

Create Your Own Aromatic & Natural Botanical Oils
Enjoy a wonderful day out and learn how to make your own unique Aromatic / Botanical oils, for personal and/or professional use.
Margaret Palmer, an MSc-qualified medicinal herbalist, will facilitate the hands-on workshop. Margaret is a lecturer and clinic supervisor with the College of Naturopathic Medicine (CNM), with a lifetime of passion and love for plants, nature, and treating people holistically.
We use only the best quality oils, many of the herbs and botanicals are homegrown, and all are chemical-free/organic. You will also get to enjoy a luxurious mini-foot spa, using the products that you have created. Our plant-based three-course lunch will be seasonal, homegrown, from our own gardens, where possible, and delicious.
