As the year draws to a close, we’ve taken a look back at the tools that were most popular with our customers over the past 12 months. But it’s not all about popularity—there are some tools that we feel deserve more recognition. That’s why we’re also spotlighting 5 underrated tools, personal favourites of our staff, that we think are incredibly handy and worth adding to your gardening arsenal.

Glaser Oscillating Hoe
A long-time favourite, the oscillating hoe is a versatile, efficient tool for weeding. Now available in four sizes (85mm, 125mm, 150mm and 175mm), its blade works parallel to the ground, undercutting weeds with a push-pull motion. Once you’ve tried it, you’ll wonder how you lived without it!

Scythe
Scything has gained a lot of popularity in recent years. Benefits of scything include; no fossil fuels used, less noise disturbance, good exercise and less disruptive to wildlife. We stock Austrian snaths and blades. The snaths are lightweight, have a gently curved ergonomic ash shaft and can be adjusted to any person's stature.

Hand Twin Hoe
Very useful solid hand tool that we have stocked for many, many years. The Twin Hoe has a blade on one side and two pronged hoe on other side. 40cm ash handle. Good strong tool for weeding / hoeing / cleaning borders or beds. Has many uses around the garden.

Felco No. 2
This is the classic Felco model, first lanched in 1948, often copied but never equalled. Once you've used Felco secateurs you won't want to go back to an inferior brand. We have the full range of spare parts available and have customers who buy parts for their 20-30 year old Felcos. A super high quality tool that can last a lifetime.

Hand Sickle
The Schroekenfux half moon shaped sickle is lightweight and easy to use. It has a comfortable wooden handle and hand-forged, durable steel blade. It is ideal for cutting those tricky corner areas and clearing around plants.

Hand Weeding Digger
The solid construction of this weeding digger makes it effective for weeding, cutting out roots, and cleaning borders or beds. The versatility of this tool makes it a practical choice for gardeners looking to efficiently maintain their outdoor spaces.

Copper Handweeder 'Nunki'
This is an fantastic weeding tool. It has a beech handle and a sharp curved bronze blade. The Nunki enables the gardener to scuffle the soil and loosen weed roots in a simple action. Can remove mat-forming weeds such as speedwell and chickweed from close to established plants without damaging them. The sharp edges enable the gardener to tidy up between rows of plants in a swift, sweeping action.

Cultivating Hoe

'A seamless blend of beauty and function' - This copper trowel is a garden must have. It is lightweight with a pointed generous blade and a beechwood handle. Copper tools don't rust but instead age with a beautiful patina.

Ridging Hoe
The ridging hoe is a good solid tool with a shield shaped head. Particularly suitable to break up compacted, stony soil. Great for making seed drills and earthing up carrots or potatoes.

Glaser Onion Hoe
This Glaser Onion Hoe is lovely light hoe with very sharp blade. Very effective at loosening soil and slicing through weeds. Ideal for getting close to tightly spaced crops. It can also be used for drawing up soil. A firm favourite of Elmer's (Managing Director), this tool gets alot of use in his garden.

Sneeboer Potato Planter
This tool makes potato planting easy. It's made completely out of stainless steel and has a sharp cone shaped tube to reduce the soil clogging. Simple to use; Insert it into the ground, lift out the clod of earth, place your seed potato into the hole, then replace the clod of earth which is released when you make the next hole.

SHW Trenching Hoe
This is basically the long handled verson of the popular hand twin hoe. It is a very versitile and lightweight (less than 1kg) hoe. The two sturdy tines can be used to break up compacted soil and the other side can be used for general hoeing.

Terrateck 'Delta' Wire Weeder
A very handy tool for weeding around delicate crops like lettuce. The delta hoe uses a round wire to eliminate weeds which are at the cotyledon stage. The gentler action of the round wire allows weeding these freshly germinated weeds right up close to the crop which may also be at a young delicate stage.

PKS 'Perseus' Copper Rake
At first glance, you might mistake this rake for an ornamental piece due to its beauty. However, it is a highly durable garden tool. Its sturdy, curved prongs allow you to work at varying soil depths and won't bend or break, even after years of use.
